Adapting your diet to be more Mediterranean is actually very easy. If you don’t eat a great deal of fruit or vegetables then try to add more portions into every meal and eat fruit for your snacks. Pick a rainbow of fruit and vegetables and you’ll be getting the widest range of vital vitamins and minerals.

Change from white rice, bread and pasta to wholegrain varieties and look out for different types of grains such as farro and bulgur. Replace your regular fats for olive oil both for your cooking, and for dipping bread into as a healthy substitute for spreads. Add extra fish and seafood into your diet. There are so many different types of fish, get experimental and try something new. A little red meat is fine, but if you tend to eat a lot of it, try to swap some out for poultry or fish. Some dairy is no problem either, Greek yoghurt works particularly well with Cypriot dishes, so give it go, or how about some authentic Cyprus halloumi? Finally, ditch the salt and stock up on herbs and spices, the healthiest way to add flavour to any dish.
