A holiday to Cyprus is always wonderful. Warm weather and an even warmer welcome await you. Delicious cuisine, golden sand beaches, and a wealth of amazing places to explore, you’ll have a wonderful time. So when it’s sadly time to go home, it’s nice to take with you some souvenirs, to remind you of your fabulous trip. You’ll find plenty of souvenirs for sale, but perhaps it’s time to forget the fridge magnets and t-shirts and chose a souvenir that you will truly treasure forever, something that you couldn’t find anywhere else. Of course you may also want to take souvenirs home as gifts for friends and family, so take them something back that they will really appreciate. Here are some great ideas…
A trip to the rural village of Lefkara is like stepping back into Cyprus’ history. Time seems to move more slowly in the villages and this is one day out that you’ll never forget. Here you’ll find women sitting out on the streets making the most beautiful detailed lace work which you can buy as a souvenir of your trip. With so many different sizes, colours and designs, you can pick out something that will look stunning in your home. Perhaps just a small doily for a dressing table, or perhaps a large tablecloth to wow your dinner guests. Each piece is one of a kind, a truly unique item that you simply won’t find anywhere else in the world.
Rose natural cosmetics
Roses have been grown on the hillsides of Agros village for over 70 years. The petals of these incredibly fragrant roses are used to make some wonderful natural organic products. They smell divine and they’re totally free from all artificial chemicals. Wouldn’t this make a lovely gift to take home to a friend? It’s one holiday souvenir that really will be used and enjoyed.
Glyka tou Koutaliou
On your trip to Cyprus you may well have been served Glyka tou Koutaliou or spoon sweets at the end of a meal. Served on a spoon, usually with a glass of water, these are preserved fruit or vegetable pieces. They are incredibly sweet and very delicious. A real treat. The great news is that you can recreate your memories of Cyprus by purchasing some jars of Glyka tou Koutaliou to take home with you. They last a long time and a little goes a long way, so you’ll be able to bring back those holiday memories many times, when you serve these up after a meal.
A traditional pot
Hand made souvenirs are lovely, but what if that souvenir was hand made by you? There are several pottery workshops in Cyprus that give you the chance to make your own traditional pot to take home with you. You’ll have a lot of fun, you’ll learn a new skill, and you’ll go home with a unique creation too! Perhaps you’ll create a stunning work of art, or perhaps your pot will be a little less than perfect, but instead will always raise a smile every time you look at it!
When you leave Cyprus, you might miss the famous and delicious halloumi cheese, so why not take some home with you? You’ll find it readily available all over the island, and don’t worry, you can buy it well sealed for the journey home.
