Cyprus holds a rather special winter secret that not everyone knows about. We’re all familiar with the constant sunshine and beautiful golden sand beaches of this idyllic Mediterranean island, but did you know that in the winter months, a very special part of Cyprus becomes a magical winter wonderland? It’s true, snow falls in the Troodos mountains in winter, enveloping the forests and villages in a blanket of crisp white snow, it’s like stepping into a festive fairytale. It perfectly sets the scene for Christmas, making Cyprus an ideal destination to visit all year round. As if this wasn’t enough to encourage you to visit the island in the wintertime, here are 3 more great reasons to plan an out of season visit…

1 – Take part in so many fun winter activities

Where there’s snow, there’s winter fun! Once the snow falls in the Troodos mountains, it transforms into a ski and snowboard resort, with plenty of opportunities for you to take to the slopes. Even if you’re not so keen on winter sports, you really won’t be able to resist building a snowman or throwing a sneaky snowball or two!

2 – You can warm up with local Zivania and delicious delicacies

If the ice and snow have made you feel a little chilly, then one way to warm up is with a shot of the local spirit, Zivania. Traditionally brewed in the villages in the Troodos area, it will certainly hit the spot, but drink it with caution as it has a very high alcohol content! Cyprus also has plenty of hearty and warming dishes you can enjoy and lots of festive specialities that will be featured on menus all over the island. From hot nourishing soups to sweet treats, you really must savour them all.

3 – Enjoy agrotourism at its best

Cyprus is a wonderful agrotourism destination. Visit one of the many quaint and unspoilt villages and you’ll be sure of a warm welcome. The perfect base to explore the natural beauty of the island, learn folk customs, see local craftspeople at work, and sample some local delicacies. If you’re looking for a holiday that offers something a little different, you’ll find it here. You can even have the best of both worlds with a split stay, spending time in the mountain villages, hiking and exploring, before heading down to the beach for a few days of more traditional relaxation.

You could combine your winter visit with your medical needs

So we do hope you’ll take time to visit the Troodos mountains next time you’re in Cyprus. The winter months are also ideal for medical tourism, with the attractions being less crowded, and the heat not so overwhelming. You’ll find a wintery walk in the Troodos mountains and exploring the surrounding villages incredibly beneficial for both mind and body, the perfect way to recuperate after your medical treatment. If you’d like to learn more about medical tourism in Cyprus, we’re here to help you every step of the way. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.
