Discover the best natural attraction on the islands
You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to beautiful natural attractions in Cyprus, but we’ve picked out 3 that we think offer the very best of nature and the outdoors in gorgeous settings…
The spectacular 12m high Caledonia falls can be found in a beautiful forest around 3km outside of Platres. An easy trail leads you through some gorgeous scenery, full of fascinating flora and fauna, right to the falls. The forest is particularly beautiful in the autumn months. But, if you’re short on time, or aren’t able to make the walk, then there is also a road that takes you directly to the falls, so no one need miss out on this stunning sight.
Larnaca Salt Lake
The vast salt lakes at Larnaca are a true sight to behold. The four lakes cover a total area of 5km2 and are located close to Larnaca airport. Over the summer months, the evaporating water of the lake leaves behind a glistening layer of salt, giving an almost magical feel to the area. These lakes are a haven for migratory birds, heading to warmer climes in the winter months. Bird watchers will love to see the many species that flock here, from ducks to swans and even pink flamingos! This tranquil, awe-inspiring scene will take your breath away.
The highest falls in the Troodos mountains, Myllomeris falls can be found close to the village of Pano Platres. There is a beautiful trail running alongside the Kryos Potamos river that leads from the Pano Platres church in the centre of the village, to the falls. The walk takes about 30 minutes, but it may take you longer as you stop to admire some of the breathtaking views along the way. It’s not the easiest of trails, but the view of the 15m falls is well worth your effort.
