Cyprus is beautiful all year round, but there’s something particularly magical about Cyprus in the springtime. If you’re looking for a more active holiday, then a visit to Cyprus certainly has a lot to offer. The weather will be perfect, warm and sunny, but cool enough to get out exploring without feeling too hot and bothered. Here are some great ways to make the most of your spring trip to Cyprus…
Find a rural retreat
Most visitors head for the larger resorts, but there’s also a wealth of wonderful places to stay that are a little more remote, set in the stunning countryside. If you really want to get away from it all, why not book a country retreat? It’s the perfect setting for a tranquil romantic break. You’ll have breathtaking views and some wonderful walks right on your doorstep.
Explore on foot
There’s always something wonderful to discover on a springtime hike. You can explore unspoilt traditional villages, sites of historic interest and see the spring flowers blooming in the national parks.
Hire a bike
There are lots of great cycling trails in the Cyprus countryside too. You can travel further and see more when you go by bike. It’s also great exercise!
Don’t forget your picnic
Make a day of your trip out and take a picnic with you. Find a spot with a beautiful view and sit back to relax and enjoy some healthy, delicious Cypriot food.
Visit the Agros Rose Festival
If you visit during May then take a trip to the village of Agros for the annual rose festival. A celebration of the roses that are grown here and used to make brandy and rosewater. There are workshops teaching you how the roses are distilled, and also lots of fun music and dancing.
Have a day of culture and history
Step back in time with a visit to one of the many sites of historic importance that can be found all over the island. Visit ancient Greek temples, or stroll around a medieval castle. History comes to life and you’ll learn a lot too.
Look out for birds in springtime
Spring brings a lot of bird life to the island and so it’s the perfect time to take your binoculars out with you and see what you can spot. You’ll see plenty of swifts and swallows at this time of year, as well as bee-eaters. If you’re lucky you may even get to see a cuckoo or a stork.
Discover the beauty of the Akamas peninsula
Spring is the perfect time to take a trip to the Akamas peninsula. Here you’ll find approximately 530 different species of plants, many of which will be in bloom during the springtime. It’s one of the most beautiful sights on the island at this time of year.
The beach in spring is so peaceful
Of course Cyprus is famous for its golden sand beaches and crystal clear waters. Visit in spring, and the beaches are so tranquil. The summer tourists haven’t yet arrived and an air of peace descends across the beaches. You’ll still find the weather perfect for relaxing on a sun lounger, and though the water isn’t as warm as during the summer months, you can still take a dip.
Visit a winery
Many local wineries are opening up their doors and you can take a tour to see how these delicious wines are made. It’s an interesting and fun trip out, and if you’re not the driver, you can sample some of these wonderful wines. Why not take a bottle home to enjoy in the evening as you watch the magnificent Cyprus sunset?
