Of all the seasons, there’s something really special about summertime in Cyprus. It’s a great opportunity to get out and about, to improve your health and fitness and to have fun and give your spirits a boost too. Summer is the perfect time to focus on your wellbeing, both physical and mental. So, follow our five healthy tips and feel wonderful, both inside and out!

1. Take a closer look at your meals

take a closer look at your meals

Now is the perfect time to revitalise your tired eating regime. In summer, you’ll enjoy healthy foods all the more, so ditch the takeaways and the processed convenience food. Fill your fridge with fresh fruit and vegetables and make sure you take time to cook your meals from scratch. Cooking can be very therapeutic and improving your cooking skills can give you a good confidence boost too. Why not invite friends round and show off your culinary abilities? Choose your fruits and vegetables in a rainbow of colours. Not only will this look attractive on the plate, but it also ensures that you’re getting the best range of vitamins and minerals, keeping you fit and healthy through the summer and beyond.

2. Cut out the extra sugar

It’s nice to look trim and toned in the summer months, so cut out that excess sugar, improve your health and perhaps lose a few pounds in the process. Of course, you know to avoid eating too many cakes and sweets, but you should learn to look for hidden sugars too. Processed food, even savoury dishes, can be very high in sugar, and watch out for all that sugar in your drinks. It is important to keep well hydrated in the hot summer weather, so swap out those sugary fizzy drinks for lots of refreshing iced water instead, or a cup of green tea. Be sure to keep plenty of healthy snacks to hand such as vegetable sticks, to make sure you don’t give into temptation and eat something that is bad for you.

3. Get plenty of good fats

get plenty of good fats

Not all fat is bad for you, so add those good fats into your diet to get all the benefits. It’s good for your heart health, and your skin will look better too. Oily fish, nuts and seeds and avocado are all delicious ways to get more healthy fats into your diet.

4. Get out and about

What better time to get more exercise than when the sun is shining? Time spent outdoors will ensure you get plenty of the all-important vitamin D from the sun’s energy. Find a sport or exercise routine that you enjoy, and you’re more likely to stick to it. A run on the beach, a yoga class, water sports or team sports. In Cyprus there’s no end to the fabulous opportunities to get more exercise, and there’s something suited to everyone if you just take the time to give things a try.

5. Think summer thoughts

Summer is a time for positive energy, to enjoy precious moments enjoying the sunshine with your friends and family. A carefree time, to slow the pace and stop to appreciate life.
